Risk Analyst – Prax Group

Location: Office based role in Marble Arch, London

 

The purpose of Prax Group's Risk Function is to help manage and control financial risk. As part of the Global Risk Team you will help manage the risk of loss of earnings arising from changes in the value of the Prax portfolio driven by commodity price changes. The Risk Analyst has primary responsibility for the identification, measurement, control and reporting of commodity price risk.

 

This is a key role in supporting the London based Head of Market Risk in controlling and reporting risk within the trading business unit. The job holder will be involved in the improvement and/or development of risk measurement methodologies, processes and procedures whilst having close daily interaction with the front office and business units regionally and globally.

 

Role accountabilities:

  • Production of key risk metrics on a daily basis and provide timely risk insights into the trading portfolio to traders and senior management
  • Maintain and share strong knowledge of trading portfolios and keep abreast of developments in the oil markets and any other areas of interest.
  • Quantitatively analyse new deals and identify embedded risks using simulation-based modelling, scenario analysis and other methods.
  • Work with relevant business teams to formulate new business and product frameworks and integrate changes into the current policies, processes and systems
  • Contribute to analytical reviews and deliver improvements to market risk processes, models and methodologies
  • Help to create a strong risk presence and promote risk discussion on the trading floor, alongside building strong relationships in London, Houston & Singapore

 

The Person:

  • Demonstrable market risk experience (approx. 5 years) gained within an energy/oil company, utility or trading house. Knowledge of the UK Downstream preferred.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and risk methodologies such as VaR, and Stress Testing
  • Insight into commodity risk management issues, requiring risk diagnostics and sophisticated analysis
  • Strong mathematical and modelling skills required, including developed IT skills such as advanced Excel (VBA) or a programming language (Python/MATLAB).
  • A strong independent mind in executing responsibilities alongside maintaining effective working relationships across the organisation globally
  • Confidence, presence, resilience and determination to succeed in a dynamic and demanding business environment
  • Excellent attention to detail, with good problem solving and root cause identification skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and communicate at all levels.
