The Company
Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, located in North Lincolnshire, is a key asset of the Prax Group, a British multinational energy conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels and is the only British refiner remaining in the UK energy market.
The refinery processes up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (up to 113,000 barrels a day) and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

The Candidate
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Studies Engineer, responsible for conducting and coordinating medium to long-term studies aimed at enhancing refinery operations, alongside providing technical expertise and engineering support across multiple performance, safety, and reliability initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operational Studies – Lead and coordinate medium and long-term technical studies focused on improving refinery performance and efficiency.
- Project Development – Identify, assess, and define energy and utility improvement projects and maintenance programmes for management approval and oversee their execution.
- Process Design Oversight – Approve process design packages in line with Management of Change (MoC) protocols.
- Feasibility Assessment – Conduct feasibility analyses on process optimisation opportunities.
- Mentoring – Support the development and guidance of Process Engineers within the technical team.
- Change Management – Ensure site modifications comply with refinery MoC procedures, including safe project handover.
- Screening of Modifications – Lead technical screening of proposed plant and process modifications per MoC processes.
- Capital Project Support – Develop project deliverables and present summaries for gate review and capital approval processes.
- Safety & Compliance – Champion a positive HSEQI culture and participate actively in incident reporting, investigations, audits, and HSEQI campaigns.
- Corrective Actions – Ensure timely and quality completion of MyCompliance incident corrective actions.
- Competency Support – Contribute to safety, competency development, inspection, and reliability support programmes.
- Regulatory Adherence – Operate in alignment with UK regulations and Prax Group policies.
- Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate technical records and reports in support of refinery objectives.
- Cross-functional Engagement – Actively participate in performance monitoring, review meetings, and improvement initiatives.
- Presentation Preparation – Assist in compiling technical presentations for stakeholder review and decision-making.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
- Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant industrial experience in chemical or process engineering
- Formal training in Hazard & Operability Studies (HAZOP), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Proven ability to operate within a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to present data effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Understanding of ISRS, safety, quality assurance, and environmental policies and procedures within a refinery setting
- Experience in process engineering design and familiarity with refinery LP modelling
- Strong communication, management, and organisational skills
