Maintenance Controller

Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, located in North Lincolnshire, is a key asset of the Prax Group, a British multinational energy conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels and is the only British refiner remaining in the UK energy market.

 

The refinery processes up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (up to 113,000 barrels a day) and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

The Candidate

 

We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Controller who will be responsible for the preparation and execution of scheduled maintenance works for the Business Team, including work scope determination, coordination of third-party services, and execution activities. This role ensures quality control and adherence to schedule compliance.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ): Promote and maintain a positive HSEQ culture, ensuring compliance with Refinery Golden Safety Rules, ATEX and SIL standards, and site safety procedures. Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to scope requirements, quality assurance checks, and inspection needs including blind lists etc Participate in risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations. 
  • Maintenance Workflow: Manage and allocate work within maintenance schedules, ensuring routine tasks are fed into the schedule and prioritised accordingly. Attendance to workflow meetings supporting prioritisation, planning and scheduling. 
  • Work Package Preparation: Develop task sequences, job method sheets, contractor instructions, and material lists to support maintenance activities. 
  • Coordination: Facilitate collaboration between multiple trades and organise third-party support when necessary. 
  • Scheduling Support: Align work packages with refinery maintenance schedules and priorities. 
  • T&I Support: Support Turnaround and Inspection (T&I) events by integrating mechanical activities into schedules and contributing to post-T&I improvements and participating throughout the event. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for maintenance process optimisation and efficiency enhancements. 
  • Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of work scopes, procedures, and maintenance schedules. 
  • Training Support: Assist in mentoring junior staff and ensuring procedural compliance. 
  • Stakeholder Communication: Provide regular updates to internal teams and coordinate effectively with external contractors. 
  • Reactive Response: Support unplanned maintenance activities and breakdown response coordination. 

 

Qualifications/Experience Required:

 

  • Recognised Technical Apprenticeship (Required). 
  • HNC in a relevant engineering discipline (ideal) 
  • Proficiency with SAP or similar CMMS systems and Microsoft Office applications (Required). 
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical maintenance within a heavy industrial or petrochemical environment.  
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and maintenance procedures. 
  • Experience with T&I and other large-scale maintenance projects. 
  • Proven ability to coordinate complex maintenance tasks in high-safety environments. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with a focus on collaboration and conflict resolution.
