Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, located in North Lincolnshire, is a key asset of the Prax Group, a British multinational energy conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels and is the only British refiner remaining in the UK energy market.

 

The refinery processes up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (up to 113,000 barrels a day) and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

The Candidate

 

We are currently recruiting for an experienced C&P Engineer to join a Business Team on the refinery.  In this key role, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and continuously improving maintenance strategies for Control and Power systems, with a strong focus on safety, cost efficiency, and asset reliability. You will ensure that all repairs and equipment modifications are specified and delivered in line with company standards and objectives around HSE, quality, and performance. The role involves monitoring equipment incidents and trends, taking corrective actions where needed, and using KPIs to drive improvements in Safety, Availability, Cost, and Energy. Key responsibilities include:

  • Actively promotes safety initiatives by ensuring compliance with Refinery safety requirements and procedures.
  • Participates/assists in Accident/Incident report investigations, conduct workplace safety audits, organise and follow up on agreed corrective actions and preventative activities.
  • Support the Process safety Roadmap by being a key actor on HAZOP / LOPA / SIL Review / HRA / SCT program, define and implement relevant actions.
  • Define and support the implementation of the ATEX program at the refinery level.
  • Ensures procedural technical compliance and control measures are in place to fulfil legislative and Group requirements.
  • Defines and implement internal maintenance standards and specifications: company rules related to technical specifications, lead times, costs and procurement.
  • Performs audits on standards and procedures
  • Lead development of reliability and cost focused maintenance plan for equipment at the refinery level and ensure their effective implementation.
  • Analyse and communicate key performance indicators for asset reliability performance of C&P equipment.
  • Ensures structured approach to reliability is followed through availability meetings, using tools such as FMEA and RCA.
  • Manage specific availability studies / projects.
  • Facilitate communication and common solutions between different Business Teams within the Refinery.
  • Provide technical support / training to the Business Team and oversee the standards to which their work is completed.
  • Responsible for the management, review, re-negotiation and competitive tendering of dedicated supplier/services contracts. Driving continued improvement by challenging current agreements and checking contract compliance including cost and quality control.
  • Participates in the T&I / Shutdown work scope preparation and implementation to ensure asset lifecycle and long-term process unit reliability.

 

Qualifications/Experience Required:

 

  • You will ideally be degree qualified and chartered or as a minimum possess a HNC/HND in Instrument or Electrical Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience within a refining/chemical environment or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in IT systems and maintenance planning tools
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of refinery processes and instrumentation/electrical/analytical systems
  • Demonstrated experience in leading reliability initiatives and maintenance programmes
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and reliability analysis tools (e.g., RCA, FMEA)
