Area Safety Advisor

Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery located in North Lincolnshire is a key asset for the Prax Group and is a world-class supplier of quality fuels. Constructed in 1968, it has the capacity to process up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (up to 113,000 barrels a day) and currently employs around 450 staff in addition to a similar complement of contract personnel.  The refinery extends over 500 acres and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

The Refinery is seeking an Area Safety Advisor to join one of our Business Teams. This role involves offering expert Health and Safety advice, support, and guidance on PRAX Company Safety Rules and UK HSE Legislation to the  designated business team, Project Engineers, and refinery-wide operations. Responsibilities include conducting Safety Performance Monitoring for the specific area, carrying out Occupational Safety Critical Task Audits across the Refinery, and providing coverage for the Technical Authority Health, Safety, and Security role when required. This role is crucial in ensuring safety standards are upheld and continuously improved across the refinery.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Safety Monitoring & Audits: Conduct Safety Performance Monitoring for business team and refinery-wide Occupational Safety Critical Task Audits in line with the annual Refinery Audit Programme.

  • Incident/Accident Investigation: Review and investigate incidents/accidents within the business team, identifying risk-proportionate corrective measures. When nominated, act as Lead Investigator for Personal Injury Accidents and serious High Potential (HiPo) incidents.

  • Workplace Inspections: Perform regular Workplace inspections within area of responsibility to support the Business Team.

  • Safety Committees & Initiatives: Coordinate monthly Business Team Safety Committee meetings and ensure KPIs and safety initiatives are addressed.

  • Contractor Safety Management: Coordinates the review of the Contractor Organisations Safety Performance for approval and during the execution of the services provided, liaise with contract providers for their area ensuring compliance to best practice.

  • Safety Planning: Prepare and implement safety plans, monitor compliance for any project work/ CDM Regulations.

  • Guidance & Compliance: Provide COSHH and industrial hygiene guidance, monitor compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations, and review with Operations, Engineering, and Inspection teams.

  • Safety Campaigns: Contribute to refinery safety initiatives, campaigns, and REX (Risk Experience Exchange).

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the HS&E department to support the site to achieve safety objectives, whilst balancing environmental, quality, and financial objectives.

  • Meeting Attendance & Compliance: Attend refinery meetings to ensure the achievement of annual health and safety targets, maintaining compliance with PRAX Safety Rules and UK legislation.

 

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • NEBOSH Diploma with a minimum of 2 years of industrial safety experience, or a NEBOSH General Certificate with at least 5 years of experience in COMAH Top Tier industrial safety applications.

  • Communication and Report Writing: Strong communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise reports.

  • Supervisory Experience: Previous experience in a supervisory role.

  • Refinery Process Knowledge: A solid understanding of refinery process systems, ideally to operator level.

  • Computer Literacy: Proficient in using computers, including strong presentation skills for conveying safety information clearly and effectively.
